Washington – The #WelcomeWithDignity campaign for asylum rights celebrates the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 in the Senate today. The legislation represents a major win for activists in the climate and healthcare movements. Importantly, passing the legislation without anti-immigrant poison pills, including provisions to codify Title 42 – a failed and deadly asylum ban – comes after months of advocacy from #WelcomeWithDignity, its campaign members, and the public. The campaign is deeply grateful for the leadership of Senators Menendez (NJ) and Padilla (CA) and the Senators who held the line protecting immigrant communities from this and other harmful amendments.
